Nicknamed "Hombre Diablo" (Devil
Man), Cueto played in the Cuban Winter League from 1912 to 1933,
batting .298 over his career. The second baseman also played briefly
with the Washington Senators from 1914 to 1919. Primarily a contact
hitter, he won three batting titles: hitting .344 in 1918-19, ..364
in 1924-25, and .404 in 1926-7. He also hit .406 in 1915-16. Cueto
was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1921. |
