Stan Musial

1941 - 1963

When MLB went about selecting its All Century Team, The Sporting News (long time based in St. Louis) selected an all time St. Louis Cardinals team--one that would give the all time MLB team a good contest.

By far the greatest ballplayer to ever don a Cardinal uniform, Stan "the Man" holds virtually every team hitting record outside the single season home run mark. A model of consistency, he ironically achieved 1,815 hits on the road and 1,815 at home over his long career. Listed as the all-time first baseman, only one other Cardinal played more games in the outfield.
