1931 St. Louis Cardinals

World Champions

The 1931 Redbirds won 100 games for the first time in franchise history, clinching the pennant on September 16 and finishing 13 games ahead of the Giants. Pepper Martin was a rookie that year, batting .300 and giving a preview of the coming Gas House Gang.

Manager Gabby Street said, "I have a great ball club, a game ball club, and I'm proud of it . . . Connie Mack [Philadelphia A's manager] is right when he says he's going to have a tough time in the World Series."
