A fierce competitor who paired with Sandy Koufax
to form one of baseball's most formidable pair of starters, Drysdale ranks
second on the franchise career list in wins (209), games pitched (518),
strikeouts (2,486), innings pitched (3,432.1) and shutouts (49). In 1968
he set a then-Major League record of 58-2/3 consecutive scoreless innings,
including a record six straight shutouts. His number 53 was retired by
the Dodgers in 1984.
