| With exceptional range, Willie Wells ranks
among the best shortstops in Negro League history. He was also
quite a hitter, batting .328 for his 26 year career, which also
included annual treks to Cuba, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. In Mexico,
he was nicknamed "El Diablo" for his defensive wizardry.
Wells was enshrined in Cooperstown's Hall of Fame in 1997. |
