Pete Alexander
1911 - 1930
373 - 208 record, 2.56 ERA
No rookie ever started with a more spectacular year, as Grover Cleveland Alexander won 28 games his first season. Yet most remember him for his 1926 appearance against the Yankees, when he won two games and dramatically salvaged game seven to give the St. Louis Cardinals their first World Series championship. He holds the franchise record with 61 shutouts and his 90 career shutouts are topped only by Walter Johnson. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1939. |
