After breaking in with the Cardinals, "Lefty" pitched magnificently for the Phillies for fifteen years winning 27 games for the woeful last place club his first year with the Phillies. Selected to 10 All Star games, Carlton was the first pitcher to win four Cy Young Awards and Warren Spahn the only left handed pitcher with more career victories. His number 32 was formally retired in 1989. |
