Alston became the manager of the Dodgers
in 1954 and led them to their first World Series the following season.
He piloted theDodgers to six more National League pennants and three more
World Series titles (1959, 1963 and 1965) over his 23-year career. Alston
ranks sixth in the all time managerial wins with 2,040 victories. His
number 24 was retired in 1977.
