Playing on five pennant-winning clubs, the eight-time all-star became won his third NL Most Valuable Player award in the 1955 world championship year after collecting 32 home runs and 107 RBI. His career was tragically cut short from an automobile accident, which left him paralyzed. The Dodgers retired his number 39 in 1972. |
